Sarah Dennis combines traditional paper cutting with collage to create intricate and exquisitely detailed works of art.
Sarah grew up on the south coast, graduated with honours in Illustration at UWE Bristol and now lives and works in Bristol as a full-time artist and illustrator.
Sarah's pieces exemplify the beauty of nature in fairy tales and whimsical childhood dreams, telling classic poems and folk tales through the medium of paper.
Inspired by Oriental artwork and the precise and intricate art of paper cutting, Sarah creates individually hand-cut pieces using a craft knife to reveal exquisite, delicate detail within the illustration.
Working in three dimensions, exploring the effect of the positive and negative space and their interaction with the light, Sarah explains how ‘removing shapes reveals the design... I love the fact that I can create shadows with it.’
Sarah shows with GrandyArt at exhibitions throughout the year including Under a Grand in November and the Affordable Art Fair in March.
She also undertakes a number of commissions for private collectors and corporate clients taking on a variety of work including individual requests for bespoke, hand-crafted artwork. Her clients include Panasonic, The Guardian, Kew Gardens, Tatler magazine, The Big Issue, Hodder & Stoughton and Dial watches who Sarah recently designed a watch for inspired by British butterflies in their 2015 collection.
