Claire Burke grew up in rural Cornwall where she remains an elected member of the Newlyn Society of Artists. After studying at Falmouth College of Art she completed her BA (Hons) in fine art painting at Central Saint Martins, London.

Claire Burke’s work uses traditional gilding techniques and has a meditative quality in her use of light and colour. 

The works are an exploration in texture and material, particularly the boundaries between the surfaces. Her simple individual panels combine to form an aesthetic dialogue that refers to both natural and manmade surfaces.

Using a range of materials including 23ct gold leaf, gold alloys, silver leaf, bole and dragons blood, the work is made up of many layers which when dry are then 'distressed.’ This process and its visibility through the layers of applied material is the central element of the work.  Finished with resin glaze the effect has a subtle shimmering and luminous quality and quiet contemplative spirit.

Claire Burke has been exhibited internationally in London, Miami, Palm Beach, New York, Paris and Amsterdam and has work in numerous collections around the world.
